Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) 2021 Recipients

During the 2020-21 academic year, Academy students became eligible to apply to the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP). HCOP is a federally funded grant program from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that aims to develop and guide individuals with disadvantaged backgrounds through the educational pathway to a health profession.

This year, eight rising seniors were accepted into the HCOP Program. Congratulations to the following students:

Nancy Dofour: Nurse Aide
Atiya Idris: Emergency Medical Services
Harrison (Harry) McDermott: Sports Medicine
Jocelyn Teran: Sports Medicine
Yared Tesfaye: Biomedical Informatics
Kevin Zheng: Medical Laboratory Sciences

HCOP recipients become part of a National HCOP Ambassador Program while they pursue their health career goals. The HCOP Ambassador Program supports students’ success through:

  • Academics, networking, and career counseling
  • Enrichment programs that enhance and develop learning and academic skills
  • Experiential clinical immersions and community services
  • Financial literacy and planning
  • Clinical and public health experiences, research, and team building activities
